5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule quinolinium compound studied in laboratory research as a selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an intracellular enzyme involved in methylation metabolism. This product is studied in vitro and in animal (in vivo) laboratory models and is not intended for human or animal consumption or therapeutic use.

Enzyme Inhibition Research

Laboratory research has characterized 5-Amino-1MQ’s selectivity for NNMT relative to other methyltransferase enzymes, along with its membrane permeability in cultured cell models. Studies have examined its effects on intracellular NAD+ levels and 1-methylnicotinamide (1-MNA, the direct product of NNMT enzymatic activity) as markers of on-target enzyme engagement in cell culture models.¹

Adipose Tissue Signaling Research

Foundational research established NNMT as a research target of interest by examining genetic knockdown of the enzyme in adipose tissue in animal models, reporting changes in fat-tissue-related metabolic markers.² Subsequent research using 5-Amino-1MQ in diet-induced animal models examined its effects on adipose tissue mass markers, adipocyte size, and metabolic parameters, without notable changes to food intake measures in these models.¹

Cellular Metabolism Research

In vitro studies using cultured adipocyte models have examined 5-Amino-1MQ’s effects on lipogenesis-related markers and cellular NAD+ availability, contributing to basic research on one-carbon metabolism and methylation biology.^1,3

Muscle Stem Cell Research

Laboratory research in aged animal models has examined NNMT inhibition in relation to muscle stem cell proliferation and differentiation markers, using both in vivo injury-response models and in vitro C2C12 myoblast cell culture systems. Researchers have examined markers including muscle fiber cross-sectional area and contractile force output in these animal models following NNMT inhibitor treatment.⁴ These are laboratory observations in animal and cell models and do not establish safety, efficacy, or suitability for any human or animal application.
